Broccoli goes out 2 to 3 weeks before the last frost and handles temperatures down to 28°F, but heads turn loose and bitter in summer heat, so spring and fall crops do best.

Plants set at 1 by 1 foot still produce, but heads are smaller and fewer side shoots follow the main head.
