Tomatoes are set out after frost danger has passed, once the soil is warmer than 60°F; tall transplants can be planted deeper because the buried stem forms roots.

Spacing depends on growth habit: determinate bush types need less room than indeterminate vines, which must be staked, trellised or caged.
